I was recently commissioned to design and create Black Tie wedding invitations for a client in Dallas.  A couple of details the bride indicated to me upon our early consultation was her desire to have a calligraphed and letterpressed invitation incorporating the colors white, grey and silver.  I selected various papers from Cut Card Stock's collection to use and aid in production of this sophisticated suite.

Perhaps one of the most useful papers in my shop is Kraft Chipboard.  I religiously use this paper as a base for cutting letterpress papers on my heavy-duty Challenge paper cutter.

By using such, I get clean and crisp cut sheets every time!  Keep in mind; however, if you don't have a quality cutting machine at your disposal, Cut Card Stock can cut paper for you per your specifications quickly and reasonably!

The other papers I selected from Cut Card Stock were Curious Metallic Silver for the inner envelope liners, and Gmund New Grey for the Rehearsal Dinner Invitation and Response Cards (which were included in the suite).

This was the first time I've used Gmund paper and I have to say I was thrilled with the quality of it for letterpress.  I also appreciate the smooth texture and cotton feel of the paper.  The New Grey color was  pleasing with the charcoal grey letterpress ink and it complimented the shimmer lining paper well.

To repeat the shimmer from the Curious Metallic Silver lining paper, I edge-painted all of the white, 600 gsm. Arturo paper stock with silver paint.  The white stock was used for the ceremony invitations as well as for small information cards also included in the suite.

I used the scraps I cut from the Gmund stock to create a set of sweet gift tags as a little surprise for my client.

It was truly a pleasure working with Olivia and her mother Susan and it is my hope they receive rave reviews on the invitation suite we co-created.  Thanks for taking the time to read my blog, and don't hesitate to reach out to me with questions or comments.  Kathryn Podorsky, Della Carta Studio.

  1. I wish I have a machine like that, I admire the letterpress effect very much. Well done!
