Mini Easter Treat Baskets

Looking for a cute way to hand out some Easter treats this year?  These mini woven baskets are the perfect size for a handful of candies or a single Easter egg and can be made with just a few simple tools and Curious Metallic cardstock.

There are plenty of gorgeous shimmery colors to choose from in the Curious Metallic line for this project, but I chose Cognac and Poison Ivory because they reminded me most of the rattan baskets I grew up with.

For each basket, you'll need to punch or die-cut two 2.5" circles and cut thirteen 8.5" x 0.5" strips out of Curious Metallic cardstock.

Start by placing one of the circles down on your workspace and laying eight of the strips on top of it in a radial formation.  Once arranged as shown above, glue the strips to the circle and each other with Tombow Mono Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.

Once the glue has dried, turn the project over and adhere the second circle to the center of the piece with liquid glue.  Press firmly to ensure a tight hold.

Allow the glue to dry once again.  Then, fold all of the "spokes" upward at the edge where they meet the circle.

Weave three of the remaining strips in and out of the spokes.  Each strip is long enough to go around the basket once with about a half-inch of overlap.  Use liquid glue to adhere the overlapping ends to each other (a paperclip can hold the ends together while the glue dries).  For each row, use a new strip and hide the overlapping ends from view by positioning them behind a spoke.

Once you have woven three rows, fold any spoke that remains on the outside of the basket over the top strip and into the basket and glue into place.  Spokes that remain on the inside of the top strip can be trimmed flush with the top of the basket.

For added stability, glue one of the strips to the top rim inside the basket.

The final strip of Curious Metallic cardstock can be used to form the handle.  Emboss the strip with an embossing folder for a little added interest and glue into place.

To embellish the baskets, stamp a few cute Easter images onto Neenah Classic Crest Solar White cardstock and color them with alcohol markers.  Cut the images out with scissors or by using matching dies.

Adhere the images to the baskets with foam tabs and add a bow made from white polyester satin ribbon if desired.  Fill them with your favorite treats!

I hope you enjoyed these cute Easter treat baskets and thanks for stopping by today.  Be sure to visit the CutCardStock Store to purchase any of the supplies showcased today and remember that Curious Metallic cardstocks are on sale this month!
