Gold And Glitter For Fall

Happy September 1st to you! Are you ready for autumn to make its entrance? I sure am! I love the cooler weather here in Texas; it reminds me of summer back in Canada 😃

Today I thought I would use this post to officially make the switch from my rainbow summer palette to the warm, cozy fall colors. I was really feeling’ the browns and golds, so that’s what I used to put together today’s project.

There’s a little extra equipment involved to make this card - you’ll need a laminator or a Minc machine to apply the DecoFoil to the background.

The first thing you will need is some Basis Cardstock in Brown. Make an A2 sized card base, and also cut a 5 1/2 x 4 1/4-inch rectangle piece. Next, cut a 5 3/8 x 4 1/8-inch piece from CutCardstock Gold Glitter cardstock (74lb). Then, cut a 5 1/4 x 4-inch rectangle from a sheet of Basis Cardstock in Gold.

Grab your brown panel piece and use a DecoFoil pen to doodle a pattern all over the paper. I knew my sentiment was going to be pretty big and glittery, so I opted for doodle dots. Circles and stripes would work just as well here, too.

The ink needs to dry a bit before you foil it, so use this time to fire up your Minc or laminator. When it’s ready, pop your cardstock into a transfer folder (or a folded sheet of parchment paper) and add a piece of gold DecoFoil over your design.

Smooth the foil out, so there are fewer wrinkles, then feed it through your machine. What you should end up with once you peel back the foil will look something like this.

You can’t see it so well in that photo, but those little dots are SO shiny! And the Basis Cardstock gives the foil bits a distressed finish which looks amazing. Go ahead and trim your rectangle with a large Stitched Rectangle Die (Simon Says Stamp) to clean up the edges.

Adhere the gold glitter panel to the card base, then layer the gold Basis cardstock piece on top of it, then add your die cut panel.

Next, run the sentiments through your die cut machine. I cut “autumn” with the Autumn Blessings Die (Simon Says Stamp) from gold Basis Cardstock. To make the “hello" die cut (Big Hello, Simon Says Stamp), I ran it through twice with Basis Cardstock in Black, and once with CutCardstock Gold Glitter Cardstock.

Sandwich these together with glue to make a chipboard-style sentiment.

Center it on the front of your card and attach the word with dabs of strategically placed glue. Do the same for the “autumn” die cut. And finally, add a few enamel dots (or hearts, or sequins…) to add a bit more interest.
