Handmade Card and Display Piece

Years ago, I noticed that a few select family members were saving the handmade cards I had sent them and displaying them on their bookshelf or mantle for a long time after the occasion had passed.  Since then, I started to send larger cards with extra embellishments to these special loved ones several times a year to brighten both their day and their living room.

Start by trimming a panel of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock to 5.5" x 5.5".  Blend mint, blue, and purple Distress Oxide inks over the entire panel with a foam blending tool.

Once completely dry, stamp a large background stamp onto the panel with Versamark ink, add clear glitter embossing powder, and melt it with your heat tool.

To bring out some of the details in the stamped image but maintain the ethereal feel, I used a detail waterbrush to "paint" over the flowers, leaves, and border elements with clean water.  This causes the ink to "oxidize" and yields a whitish chalky appearance.

Trim out the center of the panel with scissors or a craft knife, leaving about a quarter-inch border between the edge and the stamped image.

Next, trim out three panels of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock to 5.625" x 5.625", 7" x 7", and 7" x 7.5".  Score the largest panel at 0.5" on its longest side.

Using the same three inks as before, stamp foliage images over the 7" x 7" panel randomly.  Lightly ink the edges of the piece with purple ink.

Stamp a sentiment onto the center of the 5.625" x 5.625" white panel in matching blue ink and then ink the edges heavily with purple ink.

Using foam tabs, pop the smallest inked and stamped panel up on top of the sentiment panel, then pop the whole piece up on top of the large stamped panel.  Place Score-Tape on the half-inch folded portion of the 7" x 7.5" panel and press the card front on top to form a 7" x 7" folded card.

To embellish the piece more, die-cut several sizes of flowers from Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock.  Ink the centers and petals of each flower well with matching inks using sponge daubers.

Once dry, curl the petals of each flower between your fingers to add dimension.  Adhere smaller layers on top of the larger layers and glue a clear rhinestone in the center of each using Tombow Mono Multi-Purpose Liquid Glue.

Add the dimensional flowers and an organza bow to the corners of the card with liquid glue.  Mail this extra-large and delicate piece to a loved one in a small box rather than a envelope.

I hope you enjoyed this bright and cheery extra-large card project and thanks so much for stopping by today!  Be sure to visit the CutCardStock store to purchase any of the items showcased today and remember that Classic Crest and Linen Cardstocks are on sale this month!
